UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test)

Purpose

• To determine the eligibility for Assistant Professorship.
• To award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for research work in Indian universities and colleges.

• National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Eligibility

• Educational Qualification:
  • Candidates must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in the concerned subject from a recognized university with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories).
• Age Limit:
  • For JRF: Maximum 30 years (relaxation for reserved categories, women, and others).
  • No upper age limit for Assistant Professor.

Exam Pattern

• Paper 1: General Paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude.
  • 50 questions (2 marks each) – Total 100 marks.
  • Duration: 1 hour.
• Paper 2: Subject-specific paper.
  • 100 questions (2 marks each) – Total 200 marks.
  • Duration: 2 hours.
• Mode of Exam: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
• Syllabus: Varies according to the subject chosen by the candidate. Paper 1 covers topics like teaching aptitude, research aptitude, comprehension, communication, and general awareness.

Application Process

• Applications are submitted online through the NTA website.
• The exam is usually conducted twice a year, in June and December.
